Screen South is a cultural development organisation with digital creativity at its heart.
We ensure our strategic activity underpins access, promotion and skills and that these are supported at the best possible level.
We work with partners across a range of digital and creative projects in arts, heritage and on screen.
We have a drive to bring hidden stories, talent and ideas to the public gaze and back that up by nurturing good relationships with people and partners locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
We focus on nurturing a diverse range of new talent with training and progression as well as generating new productions, showcases and exhibitions.
We’re an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, which means funding thanks to taxpayers plays a huge part in supporting our work.

Graham Benson – Honorary Life President
Anthony Alleyne – Chair of the Board
Anthony Alleyne is a versatile and accomplished filmmaker with extensive experience in writing, producing, and directing across various media formats. After completing the Film-making course at London Film School, Anthony has worked on numerous projects ranging from short films to feature-length productions and television series.
The sci-fi short “Cognition”, which he co-produced, has won an impressive 362 international awards and 27 additional nominations and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as The Most Awarded Live Action Short ever.
His debut feature film, Sunburn, which he wrote, produced, and directed, was released on VOD platforms in January 2021.
Currently, Anthony is involved in developing several high-profile projects, including co-creating and executive producing High Ground, a long-running series in development set in Lisbon at the NATO Lessons Learned Centre.
Jocelyn Chandler-Hawkins
Jocelyn is a film producer, production manager and film event curator, creating immersive stories and inclusive screening events developing communities and connection.
She is the founder behind a range of transformative and influential initiatives including Through A Different Lens and Creative Connection.
Jocelyn has a background in project management and stakeholder engagement across education, charity and commercial business.
Her film credits include Words On A Page, The Complaint and Hells Bells. Jocelyn has produced the Film Bath festival, managed member events for Directors UK and produced a selection of events celebrating 100 years of community cinema for Cinema For All.
Grace Carley
Grace Carley started her career in film in 1982 as Marketing Director for the newly formed Irish Film Board.
In 1988 she established her own international sales agency, Stranger Than Fiction, providing finance and distribution for a range of independent feature films, including the early films of New Zealand director, Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) and American director Bryan Singer (Usual Suspects, X Men). The company was sold to Philip Knatchbull in 2000 and she remained as Managing Director until 2002 when she took up a position as a senior civil servant at the Department of Culture Media and Sport. Her roles there included Head of Arts Funding for England, with special responsibility for the Arts Council and the national companies including the Royal Opera House and the National Theatre.
She left the DCMS in 2008 to become Managing Director of All Industry Marketing for Cinema, a national organisation backed by all the UK cinema chains. Here she was responsible for a variety of generic cinema promotions; including the highly successful Orange Wednesdays campaign. She subsequently became Director of Fundraising for the Film and Television Charity, a post she held for three years before embarking on developing and producing film and TV projects, and providing consultancy services to the BFI, Film London and the Arts Council.
Grace Carley holds an MBA from London Business School and is a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. She has been a member of the Screen South Board since July 2008 and is also on the Finance and Audit Committee for Screen South.
Cathy Beare
Cathy is an Accountant who has spent her career working in Finance & Business. She enjoys an entrepreneurial approach, with a flair for all things commercial in particular solutions orientated. It is this that must have attracted her to the volunteer role at The Folkestone Leas Lift where the team here are currently managing the restoration.
In her spare time Cathy enjoys spending time with friends on a variety of activities including being a keen cyclist.
Jane Milton
Jane Milton is an award-winning filmmaker producing and directing documentaries. Her background is in radio, film and TV journalism, following which she worked in television production winning a BAFTA and Grierson for Channel 4’s ‘The Trust’. Other TV credits include the BBC’s ‘Children’s Hospital’ and C4’s ‘The Practice’.
Jane is a senior lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church university (CCCU) in film production. She is the key lead for industry contacts, alumni and CCCU lead for the BFI partnership. She co-runs Screen Talks, a unique film club partnership with the university and Curzon Westgate in Canterbury. Jane is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and a Senior Fellow of HEA (Higher Education Academy).
Khutina Griffiths
Khutina Griffiths is a multi-disciplinary design and art director with extensive experience in brand identity and creative campaigns. She currently leads design and art direction at creative agency The Elephant Room, with clients spanning culture and consumer brands, including Macmillan Cancer Support, The Botanist Gin, Barbican, British Library and NHS.
She is a judge for Creative Circle and the Creative Conscience Awards, and brings a sharp understanding of how strategic creative and visual communications can shape an organisation’s presence. Her work sits at the intersection of contemporary culture and purpose-led creative practice, with values that align with Screen South’s commitment to championing new talent and underrepresented voices through film and the digital arts.
Rupert Butler
Rupert Butler is a retired barrister and mediator, having been called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1988 and Ireland in 1998.
Rupert’s legal career saw him specialise in reputation management in sport and media, charity law, as well as commercial litigation.
Rupert is also an experienced non-executive director in sport and charities.Linda James
Linda is a creative entrepreneur and award-winning independent producer/executive producer of 20 drama series, 6 TV movies and 16 feature films. She founded Red Rooster Film & Television Entertainment when she was 23 and built the company into one of the most prolific and respected independent drama production companies in the UK, with 18 full-time employees and its own distriution arm. Red Rooster was acquired by Chrysalis PLC with Linda remaining as Chief Executive until 1998, when she left to float a new film and television production and sales company, Alibi Communications PLC, on AIM (Alternative Investment Market) and which was subsequently acquired by Edge Investments. In 2006 she was appointed to run the Wales Creative IP Fund for Finance Wales, investing and portfolio managing all aspects of the £12 million fund until it was fully invested in 2011.
After further consulting work, Linda returned to frontline producing in 2015 setting up Sly Fox Productions to develop and produce TV drama under a collaboration agreement with US Streaming Service, Acorn TV. Sly Fox Productions first drama series, Queens of Mystery, launched in 2019 to great critical acclaim and an Emmy nomination for Juliet Stevenson, with a second series following in 2022. In January 2024, Linda took up to role of Course Director and Associate Professor of MA Producing at Royal Holloway, University of London, to work alongside producer colleagues Professor David Thompson and Sheryl Crown, and to share her knowledge and experience with a new generation of producers. She continues to executive produce with Sly Fox Productions Limited.
Linda has been a Governor of the BFI (British Film Institute), a Governor and Trustee of the NFTS (National Film & Television School) and sat on BAFTA Council, the National Theatre’s Production Board and the National Theatre’s Digital Advisory Board. She has been on juries for the International Emmys, BAFTA, Women In Film and the RTS (Royal Television Society) as well as being nominated and honoured by all these organisations for her own productions. She is the Deputy Chair of Screen South.
