From 2002 to 2010, the Digital Shorts programme has enabled filmmakers to make innovative short films using digital technology. It was initiated by and run in partnership with the UK Film Council's New Cinema Fund.
Over the years Digital Shorts has provided some of the best training in the industry, becoming a gateway for new talent in the region.
Many of the films have gone on to win official selections and awards at festivals around the world, including South by South West (USA), Edinburgh International Film Festival, the London Film Festival, Brigthon Cinecity Film Festival, Chichester International Film Festival, Palm Springs Short Film Festival (USA), Brief Encounters, the Chicago International Short Film Festival and the Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival, to name but a few.
Most importantly, the filmmakers have used the experience they gained on Digital Shorts as a springboard to write, direct or produce feature films.
