Are you ready to take your story to the next level?
We’re looking for 10 bold, visionary writers from the Ashford and surrounding Kent areas to join a 4-month screenplay development programme designed to turn your story into a feature-length first draft — ready to pitch to UK independent producers.
Whether you’re a scriptwriter, poet, playwright, novelist, journalist or blogger, if you’ve written in any format and have a passion for storytelling, this opportunity is for you.
This programme is tailored for inspirational, innovative and production-ready screenplays that can be brought to life on a low budget, without compromising creativity or impact.
Over 4 transformative months, you’ll:
- Develop your treatment into a full screenplay
- Receive professional feedback and mentoring
- Work alongside fellow writers in a supportive cohort
- Pitch your completed script to UK indie producers
We are interested in your voice, your vision, and your commitment.

Places in this lab are limited. We will prioritise those who can attend all the sessions. Applicants will be over 18 at the time of the first session (4 Oct). We will ask all applicants to submit a treatment for the script they wish to work on through the lab, plus other examples of their writing.

Session info
All sessions take place from 10am – 4pm on Saturdays in the Function Room at the Ashford Cinema (address above) . There is free parking available. Please bring and packed lunch and snacks as appropriate.

About Gabriella Apicella
Gabriella Apicella is a freelance screenwriter and tutor. Alongside her teaching engagements at various Higher Education Institutions and Film Schools, she works as a consultant on short and feature-length screenplays independently for screen agencies and Production Companies. She has worked with BFI Future Film for ten years delivering sessions for the Film Academy. She was also a co-founder of the Underwire Festival.How to write a treatment
