Join us for a very special evening focusing on music videos, featuring a panel of industry insiders sharing their insights, a selection of the finest British work made in this medium, and the premiere of four fantastic new music videos made by local artists.
The evening will be divided into two parts, with screenings and an industry panel between 5:30 – 6:45pm, followed by a curated music video programme and Q&A with Phil Tidy & James Slater from 7:00 – 8:30pm.

JAMES SLATER | Director
James was born in Bradford and now lives in London via the fine cities of Liverpool and Berlin.
After an unsuccessful stint as a pizza waiter, he turned to directing out of desperation, starting with music videos for bands in the Liverpool music scene alongside his mini-DV-wielding sidekick, Neil, and artist friend Kate.
Their breakthrough came with The Coral, for whom they directed videos like “In The Morning,” and “Pass it On” among others. Since then, James has built a career directing music videos, commercials and documentaries in both the UK and Germany, where he lived for several years.
His work has earned industry recognition, including Vimeo Staff Picks, NME’s Video of the Year (Jamie T’s “Zombie”), Raindance Video of the Year (Stealing Sheep’s “Not Real”), as well as numerous nominations for Brit Awards and UKMVAs and several festival prizes.
In 2022, James founded Zomdic Films, focusing primarily on documentary, narrative, and commercial filmmaking. Most recently, he directed Dreaming of You, a feature documentary that serves as a coming-of-age story centred on The Coral.
Phil Tidy | Creative Producer
Phil was born in Kent just before humans landed on the moon in the same hospital as Shane McGowan. He grew up in land of Winnie the Pooh. After studying anthropology he crash landed in Camden in the early 90’s finding work in a ground-breaking digital video arts studios.
He started to hone is creative production skills on a slew of strange projects – from producing CDRoms for the BBC to directing odd education pieces and making flashing German promos. He went on to produce 100s of music videos and commercials for some of the biggest bands and brands in the world, working with a plethora of amazing directors.
Phil loves music videos which he describes as an incredible art form that at its best creates iconic cultural artefacts that resonate across the generations. Phil was one of the curators of BUG music videos, which was a long running Adam Buxton magazine-style show with the BFI that showed music on the big screen.
Carmen Montañez-Callan | Music Supervision
Carmen has spent two decades working at the intersection of music and moving image. Her journey began in the music video world as Head of Music at Academy Films and Music Video Commissioner at Island Records, collaborating with artists including Amy Winehouse, Sugababes, Paul Weller, and Goldfrapp, and directors such as Jonathan Glazer, Lynne Ramsay and Walter Stern.
Since 2014, Carmen has specialised in music supervision for film and television, with recent TV credits including Supacell (Netflix), Boarders (BBC), and The Reluctant Traveler (Apple TV+), alongside a long list of feature-length documentaries and films. Her dual background in production and the music industry gives her a unique perspective on bringing music and picture together. Carmen is a Senior Board Member of the UK & European Guild of Music Supervisors, co-founder of its Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and a member of BAFTA.
Natalia Maus | Executive Producer & Commissioner
Natalia Maus is a commissioner and Executive Producer. She started off her commissioning career at Island Records before going freelance and has worked with U2, Florence & The Machine, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Lily Allen, Anna Calvi and Ella Eyre.
