National Lottery Awards: Semi Finals

Screen South are delighted to have reached the semi finals of The National Lottery Awards.

The Awards are an annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects, and they aim to celebrate and recognise the difference that those projects have made to people, places and communities all across the UK.

uScreen is competing against nine other projects for the title of Best Arts Project.

We could be in with the chance of appearing on a BBC One show, and we need your vote to help us win!

uScreen is about giving young, deaf & disabled people a voice in our increasingly digital online world. As well as free accessible group editing and storyboarding tools uScreen provides British Sign Language, subtitles, visual captioning and audio description which can be added to the films created by the website’s participants so that everyone can enjoy them. uScreen also offers a programme of live workshops and screenings alongside a training and professional mentoring opportunities. Many young people continue to benefit from bursaries which have supported them to Make Show and Share their film and ideas with old and new friends as well as develop potential career pathways. uScreen aims to link young people into a creative and inspiring network so they can benefit and learn whether they are creating online at home or at school, in their youth club or at film festival. After taking part in one of our uScreen programmes - disabled young person Stephanie Howell commented “uScreen has helped me get across what I’ve been wanting to say and how I have felt for years…uScreen made me feel that I have a voice.”

uScreen is part of Accentuate, the London 2012 Legacy Programme for the South East. Accentuate has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, creating a lasting impact from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by funding ideas and local talent to inspire creativity across the UK, and also by the Regional Cultural Agencies.
