In July & August, Screen South ran FREE creative workshops for 8-13 and 14-17 year-olds, jam-packed with creativity, across Ashford, Canterbury, Dover and Folkestone.

Stop Motion Animation & Model Making

26-27 August 2026

Make A Short Film (Ashford)

Develop, shoot and edit a own short film from scratch in two days!
Taking place during the Summer Holidays, this is the perfect opportunity to develop fun and innovative creative tech skills in a practical setting.

Basic Games Design

19 – 20 August 2026

Design, build and playtest your own video game from scratch in two days!

Make A Short Film (Canterbury)

4 – 5 August 2026

Age Group: 14-17 years (Seniors)
Develop, shoot and edit a own short film from scratch in two days!

Coding with Raspberry Pi
Date: 8 April 2026
Times: 10am – 4pm (12pm – 1pm Lunch)
Lead Tutor: Gavin Roberts
Age Group: 9 – 12 years (Juniors)
In this one-day workshop, young people will be introduced to basic Python coding, how it works in everyday life and its uses.
The workshop will begin with a demonstration of the Raspberry Pi 5 in a basic circuit.
We will then move over to practical learning, where students will pair-up and practice basic codes on the Raspberry Pi Pico, building a small IF sensor robot coded to make it move.
Build the Beat
Date: 15 – 16 April
Times: 10am – 4pm (12pm – 1pm Lunch)
Lead Tutor: Tim Smith (Seaview Studios)
Age Group: 13 – 17 years (Seniors)
Join us for a two-day music-making workshop led by Tim Smith of Seaview Studios.
On day 1, young people will write 2–3-minute tracks in pairs, using Ableton Live with Novation LaunchPads and Launchkeys to lay down parts and build-up a music track.
On day 2, the the young people will dive into the world of quadrophonic sound using E4L in Ableton Live, learning how to mix the music between 4 speakers to make their tracks more immersive for the audience.

Taking place in the Summer Holidays, this hands-on, two-day workshop is the perfect place to develop fun and innovative creative tech skills whilst meeting new people and building collaboration. The Screen Ashford team and a host of expert tutors will be on hand to keep you safe, engaged, and creative!

During 2022, Screen South ran a series of 2 day activity camps over the Summer Holidays. These 4 free Camps were open to all 10-16yr olds and took place across across 2 days each in Folkestone, Dover/Deal, Canterbury and Thanet. As part of the programme, all attendees were also invited to attend a Cultural Visit which included, The Crab Museum, Margate, The Battle of Britain Museum, Hawkinge and the Westgate Towers, Canterbury. The attendees were also invited to a Culture Camps Celebratory final event which took place on 3rd September at Ashford Picturehouse.
The Screen South Culture Camps were part of a District-wide programme managed by Screen South and funded by Reconnect and Kent County Council. Below you can see the films created as part of Culture Camps from all four partners, LV21, Jasmin Vardimon, Pillar and Screen South
