WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Feeling creative and looking for a project to take part in? Screen South are running a free week long film challenge which is open to all ages.

You don’t have to have ever made a film before; as long as you have an idea you can apply. Films can be shot on anything from a mobile phone to a high end camera. We are looking for creativity and stories about the Romney Marsh, fictional or real.

All films entered will be shown at a free screening in New Romney on Saturday 16th November 2019 where a panel of judges will select the best three films, who will be awarded a trophy and voucher.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Dates

You will have from
10am Thursday 24th October untill
5pm Wednesday 30th October

to make your film, at which point you will upload your film for the judges to view

Prizes

1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Place will be awarded a voucher and an exclusive Film Challenge Trophy

HOW CAN I SHOOT AND EDIT MY FILM?

Shooting

Screen South have a number of cameras you can borrow, but this will be based on a first come first serve basis and on limited loan. Contact us on 01303 259 777 or info@screensouth.org to find out more.

Editing

There are many different types of free software which you can download and use to edit your film. We recommend Davinci Resolve 16 which has a free download at the bottom of the page.

THE RULES

  • At least one member of your filmmaking team must be a resident of the Romney Marsh.
  • Your film must be shot on the Romney Marsh.
  • The film must include the key phrase that will be emailed to the lead contact at the start of the film challenge.
  • Films can be any genre: Art, Animation, Fiction, Non-Fiction etc
  • Films must be between 1 – 5 minutes in length.
  • The final fully edited film must be uploaded by 5pm on Wednesday 30th October 2019 (details on how to do so will be emailed to you at the start of the challenge).
  • All films entered will be judged by a panel and the judges’ decisions are final.
  • By entering a film, you are granting Screen South, Fifth Continent and its partners’ permission to share the film online, use for promotional purposes or for screenings.
  • Filmmakers who incorporate any images, writing, music or other creative material where rights (including intellectual property rights) belong to a third party, must obtain the third party’s express permission.
  • Once you have registered your team, Screen South will forward you a production pack that will include key information and templates for you to use.
