Screen South and Living Words in partnership with Normal? Festival of the Brain’s 2025 satellite projects, are delighted to announce that Italian artist Flaminia Celata (aka Flami) will be in residency in Folkestone throughout this June.
Called ‘The Boundaries are Eminently Porous‘, the residency will see Flami exploring neuroplasticity and the brain; working with photography, video, sound and the unknown.
Artist Talk – 5th June 2025, 5:30pm
The project commences with an Artist Talk by Flaminia Celata at our digital hub in Folkestone (book here – free, all welcome). Flaminia will talk through her career and various stages of her work that has led to her residential here in the UK.
Sharing Event – 27th June 2025, 6pm-8pm
Join us for the culmination of Flaminia Celata’s residency: The Boundaries Are Eminently Porous. Experience how photography, video and sound converge to examine the brain’s adaptability and the fluidity of identity. Followed by drinks and networking. RSVP for free – spaces are limited.
Focussing on 2 participatory projects, Flami will run:
- ‘The Memory Palace’ alongside people living with dementia and their friends or partners, exploring objects and co-creating worlds – Running 11th and 18th June 2025
- ‘The Plastic Lab’, which over 6 sessions, will bring together people within the queer community, who are over 35 years old, have experienced later age ‘coming out’ and are curious to explore neuroplasticity, queer joy and visibility. Full participant call outs coming later this week – (6 session run time tbc)
Flami will be Screen South’s very first artist in residence and looks to interrogate expression, experimentation and innovation through the contemporary arts. See more of Flami’s past works at www.flaminiacelata.com
