Lightscapes 2026 – 27
A Projection Mapping Lab & Showcase in Dover

Call for Artists & Creatives
(Applications Now Closed)

Screen South is offering an opportunity for 10 artists and creatives to take part in the next edition of Lightscapes – a supported programme exploring the creative possibilities of projection mapping and immersive digital art.

This edition takes inspiration from the opening of The Bench, Dover’s new hub for digital creativity, built on a site which has been a place for exchange, encounter, and gathering for centuries.

What might Dover’s past look like when reimagined through contemporary digital tools? What stories define the town today? And what futures – plausible, speculative, utopian, strange or fantastical – might emerge from this extraordinary place?

Working with specialist artist and projection mapping tutor Mike Eden (Routestock) participants will develop new skills and create original projection-mapped work responding to the theme:

DOVER: PAST • PRESENT • FUTURE

The programme will culminate in a public projection showcase at the end of February 2027.

Applicants should be available to participate across the programme.

Why take part?

The Lightscapes Lab introduces participants to projection mapping – using moving image, animation, sound, digital imagery and light to transform buildings and physical spaces.

Across the programme you will:

· learn the principles and practical techniques of projection mapping;
· develop skills using digital image, video, animation and mapping software;
· experiment with translating your existing creative practice into projected work;
· research and respond creatively to Dover and its stories;
· receive specialist technical and creative guidance;
· develop an individual contribution to a collaborative public artwork;
· present your work at scale as part of the final Lightscapes showcase.

Who can apply?

You do not need previous projection-mapping experience.

We are interested in people who are curious about working in new ways and excited by the possibilities of moving image, light, sound and public space.

We welcome both emerging and established artists and creatives working across a broad range of disciplines who can demonstrate commitment to an intensive creative development programme, including attendance at scheduled workshop dates and time spent outside of them producing creative work.

We particularly welcome applications from people who live, work or have a connection to Dover and East Kent..
