Curating Visibility: Consultant Evaluator or Researcher

NOW HIRING:

Accentuate's Curating Visibility
Consultant Evaluator or Researcher

Screen South, through its pioneering Accentuate Programme is seeking an experienced evaluator or researcher to monitor progress, capture learning and insights, and provide an iterative reflective approach to their Curating Visibility project.

Accentuate creates and delivers projects that break new ground for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people to participate and lead within the cultural sector.  Accentuate is one of Screen South’s portfolio of programmes.  Screen South is a Folkestone based cultural development agency, with digital creativity at its heart.

We have been awarded an Arts Council England grant to deliver the landmark project Curating Visibility. Curating Visibility follows the acclaimed Curating for Change programme and will continue to tackle the serious under-representation of D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people in museum workforces, collections, interpretation and audiences, through the creation of 6 Curatorial Fellowships for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people at Partner Museums across England.

Fellows will gain the experience they need to kick start or progress their Curatorial careers, ensuring that those with lived experience of disability are at the heart of museum research and interpretation. Fellows will also work with local communities to research hidden disability history stories and share these through highly accessible public-facing interventions which have a strong digital focus.

We have garnered a reputation as providing leading guidance and advocacy for best practice for museums to engage with and support disabled people, through our sector forums and action plans.  We will continue to act as resource for the sector. We would like our evaluator/researcher to help us gather the evidence and reflections to help contribute to these sorts of sector engagement activities, with the aim of bringing about a sea-change in the way museums recruit and support D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent staff, work collaboratively with their local communities, collect objects, and share authentic and relevant stories relating to disability history.

The consultant evaluator/researcher will be experienced in evaluating large scale multi partner projects which operate across a number of locations, working with D/deaf and disabled people, working with a range of stakeholders across the museum or wider cultural sector, and understand the nature of a project which seeks to tackle change within the museum sector. They will be a professional evaluator and/or researcher, a skilled communicator with a flexible and self-motivated approach to delivering this service. We particularly welcome applications from D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent organisations and /or people.
