Screen South is delighted to present Elizabeth Klinck’s returning research rights and clearances workshop “You See It, You Hear It, Let’s Clear It!”, which will delve into the world of research, archival imagery, audio and music rights clearances in the light of recent innovations in technology and AI.

Participants will become familiar with concepts such as “fair dealing” and “orphan works” and public domain material. They will discover ways to reduce costs and limit risks when including images, footage, and music in media projects – and how they can evoke emotion, authenticity, and context.

The workshop will provide updates on:
– archives at risk;
– Best practices for working with archives and GenAI, and
– how best to work with an Archive Producer on your next production.

The workshop combines theory and practice and is suited for filmmakers, artists, archivists, archival researchers, directors and producers. Handouts and a follow up online consultation will be offered in addition to a session that will include Q&A.

The workshop will be followed by a screening of Werner Herzog: Radical Dreamer (dir. Thomas von Steinaecker, 2022), at the Sliver Screen Cinema, introduced and with a Q&A with Elizabeth.
